another way can combine object is to use booleans
另外一个合并对象的方法是使用booleans

this allows you to add and subtract object almost like cutting tools.
它让你添加与减掉对象,就像cutting工具一样

here I have a simple tv set
这里我有一个简单的电视

let's say we want to make some bends in the side of that tv
我们说我们要在电视的侧面做一些弯曲的东西

we can draw some boxes here to create a cutting tool for the fence
我们可以在这里画一些方块盒来创建一个cutting工具,来制作一个挡板

Let's go to side view here
我们进入到这里的侧视图中

and draw a simple polygon cube, I am gonna make it tall

and in the front view, I want to drag that out

create this particular shape

the length of it doesn't really matter,

we are really working on this coarse file here.

I want this actually cut a hole in the side of the tv set.

so if I go into side view

hit 4 to see wireframe mode

we can adjust it a little bit.

If I want to, I can scale it down

and let's say, we want to make a couple of fence

maybe we can scale it a bit,

and then go into move, let's do a ctrl d to duplicate

We go ahead duplicate that once

duplicate that twice again with ctrl d, position this

and slide these down to make a second row.

so we create a bunch of object.

that overlap with the surface of the tv set

if we take a look at this, we can push it in a little bit

so we just want to make sure they overlap that surface.

in order to make a boolean, we do need to make sure they are one object

so we can select all these rectangles and cubes, and do mesh-->combine

now I can use this as a cutting tool for my tv set

So I am gonna select the body of my tv set.

and then shift select the cutting tool, this is the object selected

and you can see it's hightlighted, and it's green

and we just do mesh-->booleans, and in this case, we do difference

that acts as a subtraction tool,

and as you can see, we subtract it out

booleans have multiples ways of working
布尔工具有几种工作方式

under boolean, we have union, it combines objects together

difference is subtraction, and intersection which only shows the parts that overlap

but typicallly I found difference is the best,

because it tends to make it into a very nice cutting tool.

so now I have basically a hole in the side of my tv set

so it's very easy to cut interest shapes into objects using booleans

while, I can draw some boxes here to create a cutting tool for the vents

Let's go ahead into, say, side view here

and I am gonna draw a simple polygon cube, I am gonna make it tall and skinny

and then in the front view, I am gonna go ahead to drag that out

So I create this particular shape

Now the length of it doesn't really matter

we are really working on this profile here.

Now I want this actually cut a hole in the side of the TV set.

so if I go into my side view

hit 4 to see my wireframe mode

So if I want to, I can scale it down

so what we've done is we basically created a bunch of objects that overlap with the surface of that TV set

if we take a look at this, we can actually push it in a little bit here

so we just want to make sure they overlap that surface.

Now in order to create a boolean, we do need to make sure those are one object

so we can select all these rectangles or cubes, and just do mesh-->combine

And now they are all one object.

now I can use this as a cutting tool for my TV set

So I am gonna select the body of my TV set.
